As most Airbnb hosts have realized by now, Airbnb has expanded its "Extenuating Circumstances" policy, which was a bad idea from the beginning, as it in essence coerced hosts into being unpaid travel insurers, to cover absolutely any reservation anywhere in the world (excepting mainland China which is now in recovery from COVID-19) made before March 14th and with start date before April 14th. However it's likely that as time goes on and the effects of the pandemic are still heavily impacting travel, they will extend that April 14th date out.

Hosts are upset about this and wondering how they can make business decisions if they have no idea if they can rely on the cancellation policies in place on their future bookings. Some hosts have bookings all through the summer and wonder if all that income will be wiped out should Airbnb continue to expand the extenuating circumstances policy.

My suggestion is that hosts do not keep Airbnb bookings on their calendars for the next approximately 3 or 4 months. I don't believe that things will be back to normal until at least August, possibly longer. I suggest cancelling any Airbnb bookings which stand in the way of you filling your space with "real" bookings, in whatever way you can find these, set up with cancellation policies that will be honored and thus representing income you can rely upon.
