No surprise: the hotel industry doesn't like competition. So, they are pushing for a national law change that would make Airbnb responsible for checking legality of EVERY SINGLE LISTING on their entire website. m.washingtontimes.com/news/2019/dec/30/hotel-industrys-latest-airbnb-attack-to-upend-shor/Imagine if you couldn't post anything on Craigslist, before Craigslist verified that you were the owner of the property you listed for rent or for sale. Craigslist is currently free to list on. That would not be the case if CL had to hire thousands of employees to verify every single listing before it went live. And this, in essence, is the same with Airbnb. With millions of listings around the world, and thousands of different laws not only country to country, state to state, but city to city (many of which are so unclear that even real estate attorneys do not know what the law is on Short term rentals), this would not be possible to do.
