Here is the home page of the Homesharers organization, a group of hosts which began in San Francisco, founded by Peter Kwan, and aims to eventually (though dont' hold your breath...it may take some time! )be a global nonprofit organization with chapters around the USA and world:

Additionally, Homesharers of San Francisco has a facebook page:
www.facebook.com/homesharersf
As stated on the main home page of Homesharers, this is a nonprofit organization which does not receive financial support from any vacation rental site, including Airbnb. Homesharers organizers are not paid organizers, and we receive no compensation for our work, which is different from, for instance, the staff of many municipal Rent Boards (eg Berkeley Rent Stablization Board), who are paid staff, (with salaries which are often extremely generous!)
Currently, there are three chapters of Homesharers, all located in the San Francisco Bay Area. These groups are part of the core nonprofit organization, and each have a forum on Airbnb as well. We are planning to have this forum linked with the Homesharers group, but the Airbnb forums are very useful too as those are easier for new hosts to find. So we're hoping hosts use both.

Homesharers of the East Bay:
www.airbnb.com/groups/960
Homesharers of the North Bay:

If you are interested in setting up a chapter of Homesharers in your region, please let me or Peter know! It is particularly useful to set up Homesharers chapters in regions of the nation or world where local governments are grappling with how to regulate short term rentals, as Homesharers was founded as an advocacy organization. By organizing locally, you can more effectively advocate for our shared interests, which overlap with Airbnb's interests, as it too would like to see local governments develop favorable regulations for short term rentals (STR's). Yet it's the hosts rather than Airbnb the corporation who need to do the footwork, organize, go to meetings, write letters, give testimony at City Council meetings, etc. In the San Francisco Bay area, for instance, many municipalities have taken up this issue over the past year, including:
San Francisco
San Jose
Palo Alto
Berkeley
El Cerrito
Alameda
Oakland
Piedmont
Tiburon
Belvedere
Danville
Sausalito
Napa
Sonoma
