I received a reservation a week ago by a previous guest that I remember specifically as being very needy to say the least. My stomach groaned to be notified she had instant booked Thanksgiving weekend.
She emailed me today to state she is experiencing work scheduling difficulties and wants to change the reservation to a weekend in December.
According to the email, she only paid 1 night stay and the Airbnb service charge.
I phoned Airbnb inquiring why Total Payment is not stated as the charge of the reservation and why these numbers are in red.
Tis news to me that all guests now have the option upon booking to pay 1/2 and the balance prior to check-in.
Hosts have no say in this offer being made to guests.
Hosts will not be notified of the guests choice to refrain from paying the full reservation fee at time of booking and will only be notified when the final payment is made or defaulted.
According to the policy, Airbnb will attempt to collect the balance 30 days after the reservation is made or prior to check-in.
If the payment does not clear via the credit card used, the guest then has 24 hours to make payment or the reservation is cancelled. Cancellation policy is then adhered to and the host's calendar is re-opened.
At this moment in time, with this particular reservation and considering my strict cancellation policy, the 50% cancellation fee is covered as I will not accept an amendment to give her another reservation to trouble my soul with.
Sounds like a new can of worms being served upon us hosts.
Does anyone have thoughts or experiences regarding this new policy?
