"Smart" Locks
I am interested in getting one of the smart door locks, such as August (www.august.com) or Open Sesame (http://www.candyhouse.co/)
I am wondering if anyone has any experience with those, and/or recommendations of any other door locks.
Thank you!
Keith:
I use a system from HID. it's a controller (which has a web interface), door pin pad, and door striker.
it's been a godsend.
Every guest gets their own unique code which expires the day their booking ends.
Tim:
Which model is it?
I use Schledge but it is not a smart lock. You have to program the entry codes and delete them manually with a code. It is basically a lock set with a number pad. It also comes with a key in the event the battery dies or you forget the access code.
They do have a smart lock version of the same lock but it costs $9.00 a month subscription.
If you are set on getting a smart lock, make sure it accepts Apple and Android because not everyone has an Ipad.
Entry to my flat faces the street so I was worried about hacking and waiting for more reviews. I do love the ideas of remote programming and will consider updating in the future.

I installed a Schledge today! It's super easy to add/delete codes and it cost $109. If you don't need remote access, I'd recommend this brand too.
*Schlage, is what I meant: www.amazon.com/Schlage-FE595-CAM-619-GEO/dp/B001CO9RKM
Alessandra:
Can these be used on front gates as well as front doors? We currently have a locked entrance gate (separate key) & then the front door (another key). I like the idea of expiring codes, so HID sounds like a great alternative.
Keith:
I believe so. I'll email you the name of the person who installed mine.

Tim, I just looked at their site and assume this is something you had professionally installed? Is there a cost estimate you could provide? Much appreciated!
Keith:
You can install yourself but best to have someone who knows how to hide all the wires and such. One time investment...lifetime payoff
Tim:
are these card readers?
Keith:
I don't recall the model number. Its the controller that supports 2 pin pads. I only have one.
You can do either pin. Or both pin and keyfob. But not pin or keyfob...so I have it just for pin code only.
Tim:
I am not finding it online. I am googling HID. I this the name of the company?
Keith:
google: hid keyless entry systems, you'll find a bunch of stuff.
Alison:
I would interested in the HID, that sounds great!
