This thread appears on the AIrbnb Community Center, and reveals a very serious problem within Airbnb's practice, where they are in essence violating their own stated policy. community.withairbnb.com/t5/Hosting/To-Clara-Liang-Product-Director-Last-min-cancellation-because-of/m-p/748182#In this case, a host in France had a booking for one person, but the guest arrived with 2 adults and one child in the middle of the night. Host accordingly refused him entry, as he was in violation of the maximum occupancy for the unit and had not given accurate information on how many were in the party. Host was not prepared to host 3 people. The guest, who never actually entered the unit, and never stayed, then left a retaliatory review, a 1-star review in all categories, including comments on cleanliness. When the host contacted Airbnb to request to have this review removed, since it was in violation of Airbnb's policy that guests may not leave a review that does not reflect their actual experience (and someone who has never entered the unit cannot comment on its cleanliness) the host was told that the review would NOT be removed. This thread is quite long, with 308 replies, demonstrating that other hosts are fully aware of this very serious problem in Airbnb.

Host says, very cogently, about his effort to communicate w/ Airbnb about this serious problem:
AND he makes the point that it's not simply about this one review. This is a fundamental serious problem afflicting the company, a very bad policy which has the result, perhaps intentional, of pressuring hosts to accept anyone, (and, I would argue, also of allowing the guest to do anything they want once they arrive, and fear of confronting htem) out of fear of getting a retaliatory review.
