Peter shared July 2015: Uber France Leaders Arrested For Running Illegal Taxi Company "The two executives were charged with two different allegations. First, according to them, Uber is running illegal taxi operations. Uber has been struggling with this charge in many countries, starting with the U.S. In 2010, the company had to change its original name from UberCab to Uber as taxi companies didn’t want to create any confusion. Second, the police said that Uber France is concealing digital documents. It’s hard to tell what the police was looking for when they raided the French office in March. But apparently, some documents are missing and slowing down the investigation." Click here tcrn.ch/1eiJ1Ed for TechCruch article. My two cents: Not directly related to home sharing, I know. But, it is sharing economy related and it's amazing to me to see how the market disruptions caused by the sharing economy can flare up so dramatically. We are seeing an increasing amount of hostility towards home sharing in San Francisco. Also, one can easily imagine public officials in SF accusing Airbnb of running illegal hotels and concealing digital documents (they already have). Let's hope Brian, Joe and Nate (Airbnb founders) don't find themselves behind bars like these Uber executives. Ali: This is terrible news. Which reminds me, my guests from Sydney took a yellow cab from the airport yesterday . When they got here the driver said his cc machine wasnt working and it sounded like he pulled out and used a Square on his phone for payment. Isn't that strange?
