In a recent discussion on another group, I mentioned that when Brian, Nate and Joe founded Airbnb in 2008/2009, not only were short term rentals illegal in San Francisco, but it was a CRIME to do short term rentals. One of the other group members asserted that I didnt' know what the hell I was talking about, and was ignorant of the difference between civil and criminal law.
No, actually it's HE who didnt' know what he was talking about. It's rare, but there are a few cities where doing short term rentals in violation of the law is indeed classified as a CRIME. In these many cases listed below, engaging in short term rentals in violation of city law, is defined as a misdemeanor, which is a type of crime.
