Aloha Deborah,
I got a good LOL over this one.
Not sure of this 'brilliant idea' when their 'suggested listing rates' are typically 1/3 of our already low rates.
I'd like to throw that back in their court, as if hosts are considered, some available 365/24/7, bustin our asses, supplies, etc., even qualify as a "living wage".
Hawaii has a very strong Hotel Union.
I know their employees would state they do not receive "living wages" considering the cost of living.
And now, us Valued Hosts have the special opportunity to receive 6 issues of the new Airbnbmag for only $15!!!
A thrill a minute!
Stay well!

I think the main advantage of Airbnb's "living wage for cleaners" deal, is that they can thereby show that cleaners get paid better by Airbnb hosts than by hotels. But Yes, it's true...on the whole, some of Airbnb's ideas need to be sent back/stuffed back in where they came from -- Goodbye puddy cat!

hahhhaaaa i love the moment where the cat is perplexed, then realizes it is going to sink, and decides to grab on to the side.

Very astute noticing that, Grace! I'd missed that side grab. Hopefully the pussy did not completely vanish for good in the -- ahem--

THat’s an easy calculation. Take a nightly rate less fees, deduct 5 Euros for perishable goods, breakfast food, shampoo, some goodies. Deduct 2 Euros for investments like towls, sheets, a mattress now and then, a computer that I pass on to the guest room instead of selling it second hand. Deduct the price I pay for half the apartment, deduct investments for half the apartment, as that’s what I rent. Deduct laundry costs, don’t deduct the coffee I take whilst doing laundry or a lazybones guest is still asleep and blocks my kitchen. Deduct my time for check-in small talk. There may be some minutes left for cleaning at the price of legal minimum salary plus insurance and taxes on that, to pay me for cleaning. If I check that box, can I claim, that the cleaning was paid according to high moral standards, all the few minutes of it and that’s it? “Please ignore the crumbs and spills and leave 5 stars!”
