Exactly! "ABB loves....." and admits
To highlight information on pages 194-195 of "The Airbnb Story":
"For close to two years, Magical Trips has been Chesky's main focus, taking up 1/3 - 1/2 of his time."
"The reason we're doing this is because we think Trips is the end game," Chesky says. "It's kind of where our heart has been."
"Renting homes, he says, might ultimately represent less than half of the company's revenue."
Not exactly what us hosts with the original "core values" of what we offer wanted to hear.
"He and the founders have been well aware of the ability of once-mighty tech giants to stick too close to their core product and become irrelevant over time.....Chesky studied some of the big and lasting tech companies, like Google, Apple, and Amazon, and came to two conclusions: the survival of a tech company depends on a willingness to branch into new categories; and the CEO has to have the discipline to put the new venture ahead of the existing business and to take the new project on personally."
The book was this years 'present'.
I found it rather disturbing to hear of his dreams and goals, and am having a hard time even finishing the book at this point.
I also do not agree with the following comment:
pg 189: " Because if you're a technology company, you can't presume your original invention is the thing that you're selling many years from now." For Airbnb, the new thing it was about to start selling was the rest of the trip.
In my humble opinion, STR has and always will be needed without the gloss, cost, and experience of the hotel chains.
Just an FYI to ponder.
