They say that hotels with a 4 star rating and above are not threatened by Airbnb, which serves a different market -- also that using Airbnb in Malaysia is not so common:
“But personally, in Malaysia, Airbnb is still rather taboo. It will take some time for people to warm up to it,” she told Business Times yesterday. “I do not think that they are driving demand from guests like hotels do. It is more of providing an alternative option to vacationers,” said Praveena. A spokesman from Kris International Traveltours Sdn Bhd said hotels and Airbnb served fundamentally different markets. “There are different customer market segments for different ranking hotels. For example, corporate customers travelling on business will not use Airbnb,” said the spokesman.
