By the way, speaking of discrimination on Airbnb....here's a story about something Airbnb is doing that is ironic, and hypocritical, but also demonstrates the almost inevitable double standards whenever you have nondiscrimination policies.
I have no confirmation of this, but was told this: Apparently a host was told by Airbnb customer service, something that reveals Airbnb is engaging in discriminatory application of its own policies. A host on another host community group wrote that Airbnb has changed its cancellation policies, but only for one ethnic group -- Chinese. For everyone else, the cancellation policies remain what they are...but for Chinese, a special cancellation policy applies, irrespective of the hosts' wishes, the CHinese are permitted to cancel a reservation on the day of arrival and get a full refund! Spectactularly discriminatory -- something really unparalleled in hypocrisy and double standards if this is in fact true.

Perhaps that is proof that I am not the only one with Chinese guests not reading the listings, and many other hosts are fed up with their ways.
Airbnb must be receiving a lot of complaints regarding this particular culture, or such would never be an issue.

I'm still trying to hunt down the facts around this issue of there being specific cancellation policies just for Asian guests--- that's what one host said that she was told but I am I can't find it in her post so it may be that she was misrepresenting the situation

I found this interesting, and also prompted me to change my cancellation policy to strict after a second 'asian' cancellation just prior with no explanation.
As you will see, it makes no sense, and I, the host was held holding the bag for my choice of moderate cancellation policy.
First email from guest:
"Hi Rhonda, I'm now planning my trip to Hawaii! This will be my last day in Big Island. Hope I can enjoy the stay!"
Jul 13, 2016
More than 5 days prior to check-in, thus available for full refund:
"Hi Rhonda,
I'm soooo sorry that I have to cancel this reservation because my silly fault. I made a mistake on flight booking and it's not refundable. I'm really looking forward to your place but it seems that I can't make it this time. So sorry for bringing the trouble."
Now, it shit or get off the pot. Luckily, the room did get rebooked, but now I've the strict cancellation.
#2 girl came up with a story another week, was coming to visit family as grandpa is in nursing home, but she wants to enjoy a one night stand enjoying snorkeling in my area.
She cancelled within the 5 day no return policy, with a follow up asking for refund due to circumstances which she explained as grandpa doesn't have that long to live.
I suspected granny just told her to stay for free, or friends, or whatever. I simply did not respond, and the cancellation was so near, the room was not rebooked, thus I'm OK with my decision.
All were asian.
#3.. Cancelled with no note. Room was not rebooked, but I praised my lucky stars I didn't have to meet, and extremely grateful for that day off.
Not good for us hosts who are planning on the bookings, holding up more lucrative reservations for their 'one night stand in the cheapest room available', etc.
Thus, I'm making this up, that airbnb has received so many complaints from asian guests with their expectations of 5 star hotel, at dirt cheap price, WITH maid service included is just another 'project' for yet another new airbnb employee to ponder whilst enjoying that free breakfast, lunch, or dinner benefit.
This is true: last week or so I had a very nice young asian man for 4 nights or so, everything was fine. He did make mention of many difficulties during his visit exploring the island, and one in particular was the lava viewing which the vog was too strong, and it was too hot, so he would take his g/f to the other side for viewing. Upon check-out, I asked him where he was off to next, and it was to the airport to pick up said g/f, as it was her desire to stay in the 'fancy pants/high priced resorts' up north. "She's not into sharing."
Just saying....off for a swim and hopefully two days off from hosting.
As always, With much aloha

Interesting Deborah. If uou are on a computer, you could see the website in a private window, not logged in, switch language to Chinese and click on a listing you know is not flexible, or several different ones. If the policy is always the same (which should be vidible even in Chinese) the theory is true ;-)
I tried it with the first Asian language - can't say which of those pictograms mean "Chinese". You get the same lodgings, if you search twice in the same language, no filter but the town. You get half of them different, if you search in different languages - mostly I got less totally new hosts and thereby higher prices searching as an Asian. I got all kinds of cancellation policies - you see it if you click on the link in the group with the price reductions. It goes to the page explaining policies and if you scroll a bit up, you see which policy is underlined, first, second or third.
