Since people are using FaceBook (I like to call it FaceKook!) to advertise groups there is now a FaceBook "space" for this group courtesy of a host named Dee. It's called Airbnb -- Global Hosting Forum

This FaceBook page could either be a place for hosts in the world at large to find out about this GlobalHosting Forum, or it could be a place for hosts to chat and discuss hosting related things, if they don't like using this forum and prefer FaceBook, as some people do. I have a bit of an aversion to FaceBook, due to privacy issues and some other things (such as the fact that entirely separate corporations, like Airbnb, will set up so that people can log in through their FaceBook account! ) but the reality is that some people seem to use nearly nothing else.
Anyway, a lot of people search for things on FB...such as, trying to find groups of Airbnb Hosts....so at least we have a bit of presence there.
I have several times been asked why I didn't just create a FaceBook group for hosts, when starting out, instead of this forum. Particularly given that when the Airbnb groups closed, most host communities who wanted to preserve their communities, went off and formed FaceBook Groups (any such groups I find, I post about them here, in hopes of providing as much info to hosts as possible!). Mainly this was because of the privacy and other issues I have with FaceBook, as well as the fact that FaceBook groups don't allow for the organization of content. On FB one cannot post content in separate threads/posts which all have their own links, nor can one organize content in different sections/boards.
I had always thought that one of the primary goals for a host community -- something that hasn't yet been realized even on the Airbnb site! --- is the preservation of content, history, a knowledge base, a preservation of its stories and anecdotes, and to be able to search for content like one would in a library, on individual shelves. All other host community forums/boards that I know of, like the current Airbnb Community Center at www.airbnb.com/groups, and like www.airhostsforum.com, don't have separate "shelves" or boards of unique subject matter, where one can browse. THey just have one search function. That's a bit like going into a public library and finding that you are denied permission to enter into the library stacks at all. You are only permitted to go to the front desk and use the computer catalog and search. Well, what if you want to wander the aisles and just see what strikes your fancy? What if you just want to touch the books and see what titles jump out at you? It's a very dissatisfying experience, for anyone who has spent time in the library aisles, to now find that you are denied access to the aisles and can only ask for help at the front desk.
Of course, the alternative point is well taken -- many say, if you just plop me down in the library at random, I'm stuck here alone in the many aisles, I can't find anyone to talk to, I feel lonely -- I don't want this. Just put me at the front desk or at the cafe with outdoor tables where all the people are and where we can chat. So the FaceBook groups suit the latter people well and now there is that option too associated with this community.
