Kind of counterintuitive. One thing Europe does exceedingly well is tourism. The whole license thing is not really the issue for me, I'm happy to have one. It's more just that getting them can be so difficult and all the other rules and limitations around home sharing seem punitive and unnecessarily restrictive.

Journalists may verify their sources! Since 2012 in France, people who want to STR over 120 days per year have to ask for an EXTRA license. But in every french town (even in the most tiny one), since decades if you want to rent more than 120 days per year you have to ask for a city license. I got mine in 1999...
