Peter shared in May 2015:
Airbnb CEO on global expansion and legal pushback
"Chesky said, 'It's pretty hard to stop' people using the system in unintended ways.
'We tell them to check with their local landlord and their local laws and
regulations and we try to provide a lot of education and we have a
direct hotline for people to call us and I think over time we want to
become more proactive,' Chesky said. 'One of the things I'm looking
forward to here in New York and cities around the country is to actually
have more proactive partnerships with landlords so we can actually work
together with them.'"

Tim:
I know my view is unpopular but hosting should also be done by hosts not real estate companies and management companies. The whole idea behind homesharing is exactly that "sharing your home". It is pretty difficult to get that personal service when the management company is in another state or even out of the country.
I can point out in my neighborhood many homes owned by real estate companies that are renting short-term all year. They don't live there.
It's not rocket science to explain why registration numbers are so low at City Hall, it's because many would not qualify under the new rules. I even read that some are forging documents.
I am seeing a lot of neighbors that are getting upset with this. We have people begging for any lead on a vacant apartment on NextDoor.
I even considered renting my unit out full time and moving back to Hawaii but 95% of all the people who responded to my advertisement were people that wanted to run an Airnb business.
It is very unfortunate that the few that Brian Chesky quoted are abusing the system and ruining it for the rest of us.
Now, we are facing 60 day restrictions under Campos and 120 days under the Mayor.
Michael:
Campos proposed a 60 day cap on both hosted and non-hosted rental? ( in san francisco)
TIm:
Yes, I believe so.
