Hi, I was just at the supermarket and had a call from a Beaverton, OR phone number. Thinking it was an arriving guest, I answered the phone. The caller was a sales person from some company (didn't catch the name) and he went into his spiel, along the lines of "I know that you have listings on Airbnb and VRBO and lately a lot of hosts are angry with how things are going. I wanted to reach out to you to offer you the perfect solution". Not exactly every word, but somehow I remember almost the entire thing except for the company name.
In any case, I told him that I was in the middle of grocery shopping and that he could email me whatever info he'd like, that I'd look at it when I had a chance. He insisted that it would be a quick call, and he could fill me in now. Again - buddy, I'm in the middle of shopping I don't have time. Either email me the info so that I can look at it, or shove it! He said I"ll call you tomorrow, what time is good. My friend, my patience is wearing thin. If it's such a great deal then put it in writing. Otherwise , not interested.
How do these jokers get my phone number? I know that VRBO has a different system and my phone number is visible in some situations. But this is not the first time that I've had a sales call, and I used to get them from Wimdu when I was only on Airbnb. So how do they do it? I don't have a house phone, so it's not possible to do a reverse lookup by address....
Does anyone know how these companies operate? I wondered if Airbnb is selling our info to "approved marketing partners" and then its resold to the highest bidder? Does some tear-tattooed con in Rikers have my credit card number too?
