Do I have to decline/accept inquiries?

Potential guest has asked a lot of questions and stated she may not be able to respond to my response as she is working some 12 hour shifts......if I answer her questions promptly but she doesn't respond promptly, will I get dinged for not accepting or declining while I am still sorting it out with her?

Hi Barbara: Let's first clear up the nomenclature about the choices for each situation:
- Inquiries: Pre-Approve / Decline
- Reservation Requests: Approve / Decline
For each, you can also choose Discuss More, but that does NOT satisfy the requirement for a definitive yes or no answer.
The Rule of Thumb: If there is a countdown timer associated with the inquiry or request appearing in the Alerts section of your Dashboard, you MUST respond with one of the options above (not including Discuss More) BEFORE the timer runs out. If there's no timer (and this means it also will NOT show up in the Alerts), there is no time concern and your responses are not being tracked for Response Rate.
As for your specific question, "will I get dinged...while I am still sorting it out," te answer is no, you will not be penalized while you are sorting out the details with the guest. As I mentioned above, this is different than Accepting or Declining.
Understanding Response Rate
- Response time is only calculated on the initial message from the guest.
- You don't have to send the final message in a conversation to maintain your response rate.
- The response rate and response time are not affected by follow-up messages between hosts and guests.
