Beware of Fake tourists .... I got Robbed
Dear Hosts,
Beware of who you rent to, I just experienced my worst nightmare, what seemed to be the perfect guest, turned out fake, reserved with stolen credit cards made a fake profile, and stayed at my personal home for 3 days, they cleaned me out, they took all my valuables, electronics, personal items and more, even my electric motorcycle (which had 4 locks) , broke doors, even took my family pictures. Took the keys and the gate remote, and left all kinds of drug residues and needles everywhere, I had a guest coming in the next day and had to cancel on him.
Be careful who you let in, but if you see something shady or suspicious, please let us know

We're there any signs that this person may not have been on the up and up. Would like to know what subtitles to look for

Yes! How can you ever tell if they're fake. This is probably going to occur more. AirBB really needs to vet people. Maybe it's better never to accept people with no reviews.

WOW! Can you give a description? Was it a couple? Is Airbnb offering any insurance?

I will say more info from the robbed host would be helpful, as in what they looked like, what behaviors if any you see in hindsight and I think Airbnb's vetting process is really thorough. I rent an apartment longterm and had the exact same thing happen and I had done credit checks and Id checks, checked references etc. I hope these people were reported to the police and you should, as the host, tell us their names etc. Our community is small and communication between all is the key! If this really took place, details are needed. Thanks

This is really shocking. We are new to renting our room our in our townhouse apartment. I just got an inquiry from someone from Mexico and she said her husband needs a place to stay for a week as he will be working at Warner music. I am accepting but after reading this, how do I know it's not a fake identity? She has a profile but no reviews. Thoughts for all of you?

It's up to you. You can arrange a phone connection through airbnb. You can require a security deposit. Airbnb will ask international guests for passport info. You can ask for references at Warner Music for the guy himself. Or you can insist that the guy make another new inquiry and makes the payment, or no deal.
