Reservation Requirements

Reservation Requirements
I do have an impression this has changed over time and I also am not confidant because i have checked and unchecked Reservation Requirements not always knowing when it has been "ON "
Do i understand correctly that for a guest to contact me when Reservation Requirments is checked that they must have completely validated their Identification with photograph and contact number and two identifications
I feel that i get a lot of inquires from potential gust who only have a verified email address and no photograph even when it is on
I also have booked quiet a few nice guest who managed to get through the process after initially contacting me and it works as a type of screen ,
Can they follow instructions well enough to get verified ?
This was the airbnb reply that came more or less 3 weeks after i inquired to them regarding this question , but with it turned on i'm still fairly confidant i get booking inquiries without photos or contact numbers contrary to what the following says from airbnb
thanks john ( i turn a paragraph into a book , excuse me for that)
Moving forward, you can limit who can contact you by setting reservation requirements in your account. Requirements can include a verified phone number, profile photo, and trip description. Based on your settings, certain guests won't be able to send you a message or attempt a reservation request until they fulfill these requirements. To change these settings, go to your Dashboard > Your Listings > Reservation Requirements. Please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any additional questions. We're here to help! All the best,Manuela

You might be required to complete Verified ID under certain circumstances. For example, hosts can require guests to complete Verified ID before they make a reservation request.

What Aibnb tells me in their email contradicts what the Help menu tells me .
the help implies they can contact me but not "book" or make "a booking request
the email implies I have setting to prevent them from Contacting Me
i've become more aggressive in declining folks when i already know i don't won't them as a guest for various reasons and they would still continue to contact or aggravate me with non friendly emails after being declined with or without comment , in general i'm open to non verified guest to inquire if they are capable of accepting No for an answer in case they begin to haggle over price or want to book outside the airbnb environment et cetera , thanks john

Hi John – The system we use in the US may be different than the system you use, so please take these words with a grain of salt. Previously, we were able to choose several reservation requirements options such as profile photo, email address verification, trip description, etc.
Not too long ago, our system was changed to remove those options and only provide one option: Verified ID.
Verified ID is not required to contact the host. It is required to complete a reservation.
In addition, I have found inconsistencies with the information given by customer service.
You can flag messages from guests when they become non-friendly. It is not necessary to respond to these people after the first reply.
Good luck!

First thank you , it is very helpful . Especially letting me know that you also have experienced inconsistencies with Customer Service , this allows me to feel more confidant when i believe there reply is inconsistent with my experience.
May i ask one more question , I do feel comfortable with a non verified guest making an inquiry or asking a question but i do not feel comfortable with a non verified guest making a booking , When a host allows a non verified guest to book does it mean that they have been allowed to make a booking without uploading a photo or identification or phone number or some combination of the three. I think that it must mean that they have provided valid credit card information and the conforming address and that is all it might mean , It is helpful for me to understand what that Verified ID truly means so if I uncheck it i am aware of what i have signed up for . I do understand that Verified ID is not full proof and i do welcome folks who are inquiring for the very first time and want to go through the process, i find it an excellent filter for aptitude .
you've been helpful and i've been unloading here so thanks again sincerely john d.

A host can require a guest to fill out a complete profile, add a profile picture, verify their ID with Airbnb, add social media links, obtain references, describe their trip and the guests, show ID when they arrive, etc. Whatever makes you feel comfortable with your guest. There should be no need to explain why – these are your rules and it is your listing/home. A reasonable person should understand that.
You can look at the description of my apartment listing for my requirements.
Verified ID is worth almost as much as you paid for it. Here is some information I've been gathering from the groups about the validity of verified ID: bit.ly/airbnb_verified_id

Sure - also note that Airbnb seems to be requiring some guests to verify ID whether or not the host requires it. :/
