How to cancel the reservation?
If I have an emergency situation and can't host the guest anymore, how do I cancel the reservation on the same day or even during their stay?
Do I pay for the cancellation? And how does it work?
Someone please share their knowledge with me. Thanks!

Contact then airbnb immediately (in writing! and by phone) and explain the Situation.
AVOID TO DO IT FOM YOUR SIDE. If possible get THEM to cancel to cancel the reservation and to help the guest to find alternative accommodation. Cancellation by a host is SEVERE act/measure to take and it depends on the circumstances if and how you get punished. The Standard procedure if you do it from your side is that you don't get Our Service fee back, you pay a cancellation fee, your calendar will be blocked to re-rent the booked days and your listing falls DEEP down in the search ranking for a couple weeks.

P.S. Not leaving out the guest of course and maybe offering already an alternative listing you have searched for when informing him. That could ease the process of cancellation for all parties and reduce "damage".

I almost had to do a same day cancellation once due to a plumbing emergency and I was appalled at the Airbnb "punishment" system. It's total BS. Add instant negative review to the list! Shit happens. We're all adults here and I think their system is flawed.

Damn! There is really nothing you can do about such an incident! To cancel and rehome a guest is actually THE BEST you could do then!

I've also heard a host say that as a guest they canceled their reservation with a host that requested it because the host send them the Airbnb service fee by paypal as a refund. Can't condone that, but it's one way of not having a cancellation on your record.

I had to cancel a booking, I got a very confrontational email from airbnb and my page views dropped from a solid 80 a day to 15.
