I had a guest scheduled to arrive last Saturday. She asked to move her reservation a couple of days out. I did that for her. It's been a week and she is supposed to check out tomorrow, but she never showed up! I have contacted her multiple times and she keeps saying that she might show up tomorrow. I have had the calendar blocked off for her all week and she has paid already. What is the proper thing to do in this situation?

I wouldn't do anything if she doesn't cancel and doesn't show up then that's her deal. For me, To get any of her money back she would have had to cancel so I could have had the chance to rebook. I wouldn't refund anything for the nights that have already passed if she cancels I might refund her 1/2 for the nights that haven't passed yet.

Unblock your calendar! Only have blocked off what her actual reservation was. It doesn't work like this at all! You could have sold those days. The guest is acting totally inappropriately. Would a hotel hold open a room for someone who keeps changing their minds? No way. Time to get tough and say enough is enough. Don't give into these types of demands. I no it's hard and you want to keep everyone happy but be tough. I would also contact Airbnb about the situation and inform them what is going on with this guest. Don't be afraid to leave a bad review. I've just had a guest try to manipulate me and I just stood my ground. It feels awful but you owe other hosts to not allow people to use Airbnb like this.

here , here,,totaly agree ,,,YOU HAVE KEPT THE ACCOM OPEN FOR HER, SHE HASNT TURNED UP TO BOOK IN,,thats her problem NOT yours, HOTELS stipulate,, if you PRE BOOK, and pay for bookings and you dont show up within a given time without contact they have the right to re allocate the booking.. i have had NO SHOWS and as far as i am concerned IF YOU DONT SHOW UP AND DONT MAKE CONTACT the problem is yours and not mine... true,, its time to get tough and say enough is enough,,,i would not worry about LEAVING A BAD REVIEW, to do so is of mega help to other hosts.. I WOULD NOT REFUND ANYTHING, ? why reward ignorance ,,, NO GO IN MY BOOKS....

Lisa mentioned the guest has already paid, unless this transaction took place outside airbnb she can't simply unblock her calendar, the guest would have to cancel to free up the calendar.

I was referring to Lisa blocking out additional dates for the guest in case she wanted to come. Yes Nicole you are right the dates will stay blocked if it's a confirmed booking.

But the guest never cancelled therefore giving Lisa the chance to rebook her room to someone else and make money on those nights. Lisa the host should not lose out on money because the guest can't get her act together.

I agree with Jana. We are running businesses and are expected to be professional. If a guest books and decides not to turn up (without good reason) then the Host should not have to lose in the business transaction.

No way for a refund. The guest never canceled and she keeps saying she might arrive the next day. If the guest had just canceled, the host could still book the room. I agree totally with Jana and Kate.

I would not refund a person that no-showed or did not cancel. A reasonable reason would need to be provided before I would consider money back.

Thanks so much for all of your replies! I did unblock the additional days she had requested. I just wasn't sure what to do about the days that had already passed and been paid for.

Don't worry about those days that are paid for. It's not your concern if people spend money on something and then don't use it. That is their right to do.

Lisa don't worry about the days that have gone. She had the option to cancel the reservation but chose not to. It's your money now. I bet you never hear from her again. Please leave an accurate review of this person. You have done the right thing.

I agree. I had a guest check in once and spend 1 or 2 nights with me and then he disappeared. After a few days, he told me he decided to stay with a friend, then it was his dad was sick. I don't know if he was uncomfortable with me or he was staying with a friend for other reasons. It made me very uncomfortable that he would do this and made me very suspicious because I can't see paying for a week and not using the space. That's a waste, but you meet all kinds on this site. If a guest prevented you from hosting others to earn money by NOT cancelling, you are entitled to keep the money even if the guest never showed
