Six days remaining....
The countdown to closure of these host communities continues....six days now remain.
I thought I'd use the number of remaining days as a sort of way of throwing dice and doing "groups content divination" and see what randomly arises when I search for old threads for these groups. This dice throw gives a sample of the broad spectrum of the host community.

Did you know that there are over 220,000 threads in these old host community groups? All of which we will lose in 6 days....

That is very interesting, Evelyn...that this issue still hasn't been resolved! I took a look at the documents you presented, and saw that this was about the state of New York's attorney general having submitted a subpoena to Airbnb, requesting an ENORMOUS amount of data -- essentially ALL private data pertaining to EVERY single host in New York State -- their name, address, email, and details of every single rental they had done thru Airbnb, the method of payment to the host including their bank account number, the total gross revenue for each host, and more! It is incredibly arrogant and inappropriate for a government to demand such private information from a corporation, and a third party company as well.
In their reply to the subpoena, Airbnb's legal representatives said this, which I think well describes the kind of overreach that this government was trying to accomplish, and the protections that US law affords citizens from such government intrusion:
"The NY attorney general subpoena is invalid on its face....NYAG has not articulated even a minimal investigatory belief that any specific host, much less the majority of hosts, has violated any law....Governments do not have an unfettered right to subpoena whatever data they want, in the hope that they might locate a possible (email hidden)e subpoena is precisely the type of "fishing expedition" that is not permitted by the courts."

Oh That got resolved. Airbnb provided the information of private apartment to the Attorney General. But the entire legal issues is still happening. Right now there is a bill where they want to fine people with class A dwelling and ADVERTISE on short term vacation rental platforms. Kind of scary.

Yes, I recall hearing something about that -- that they were considering making it a crime to even advertise one's property. I just found this on Assembly Bill A0874.
which says this: "While it is already illegal to occupy a class A multiple dwelling unit for less than 30 days, this legislation would clarify that it also ille-
gal to advertise your units for occupancy that would violate New York
law. Unfortunately, online home sharing platforms have refused to rid
their sites of advertisements for use of a unit that would violate New
York law and subject tenants to fines and potential eviction. These
online home sharing platforms have also refused to provide New York's
tenants with accurate information about the ways in which they may
legally use the service. It rests with the city and state to protect
tenants, communities and existing affordable housing stock from an
incursion that is destabilizing communities, endangering tenants and
depleting our rapidly dwindling stock of affordable housing."

The same rule against advertising on ANY platform exists in our local ordinances - after an initial scare in January we are all ignoring it, something which would not really be possible in Manhattan....
