Belongings left behind
We had a couple from Italy recently stay with us, and just discovered they left their coats behind in the closet. In our checkout procedure we say to check for all belongings.. Anyway, what would you recommend we do? We haven't encountered this situation yet!

I contact my guests and offer to post them after they have paid for the cost of postage. If they don't want the item, I put it in the charity shop.

I ask them to email me a prepaid shipping label.

Just had my first IPad left behind - more exciting than the lonely socks, knickers, empty shoe boxes or the single drumstick...... The IPad is returning home though happily.
Contact them and post, either COD or when they send postage.

Contact them and they could pay you for postage via paypal. It happens.

It's best to contact guests right away to ask what they want done with missing items. But in the case of two coasts, I doubt it was an oversight. Perhaps these guests are traveling home or onward to another warm locale, and found the bulky coats too burdensome.

The guests will not want you to ship them to Argentina from abroad that's for sure. They will not go through customs, and if they do they will have to go to the customs office and spend a morning in order to clear them. It doesn't matter that they are used. Contact them, but expect them to consider them lost. Are they good quality?

I agree that if you are going to be shipping their coats to them, they should be paying you in advance, and not only for postage but also for your labor time to go to the post office, stand in line and send a package (about 1/2 to 1 hour of time).
I would message them saying that you have found the coats. Best to do it soon rather than wait for them to contact you.
I've had guests leave behind shoes several times -- one guest never mentioned it to me, I only found the shoes much later. Another guest I contacted about the shoes --- she never replied.
