Lodging owners urged the Planning Board keep a zoning amendment off the warrant this year that would have allowed any homeowner to turn a spare bedroom into an Airbnb vacation rental.
“By supposedly making these illegal operations legal, you will lose those marketing dollars through the [meals and rooms tax] that gets returned to the state,” said Rob Fox, who owns the Little River Bed and Breakfast with his wife, Paula. Fox brought up tourism being the second largest industry in New Hampshire. “It doesn’t happen by accident,” he said. “It happens because very hardworking people market the state of New Hampshire.”
