Bridget and Mark shared on New Hosts Forum Feb 22 2016
www.airbnb.com/groups/content/content-209783
Deepest Thanks to Deborah, Andrew and Long-Absent Glen!
We may only have a few more days before we change whatever method we use to share questions and answers.
Moderating a forum is hard work. It is time consuming, repetitive and can be emotionally very challenging. That our hosts have been able, as volunteers, to consistently provide such care and attention in this space is nothing short of remarkable.
The sense of supportive, positive community that has developed here has come not through some planned initiative or corporate community program but from their continued personal contributions.
I personally owe them, and all the hosts who stepped up with thoughtful posts, huge thanks for helping me craft a hosting style that resonates with guests and fits with my own life. From the careful wording in the listing description to avoid potential issues (who knew that people downloading illegal stuff on your wifi could be a thing?) to the well crafted language of responses to guest inquiries (friendly, positive yet professional), this forum has been a daily stop - many times a day back when - for me to learn to be the best possible host.
I'd cook you all dinner if I could! (and will if any of you get to the Seattle area!)Thank you deeply, deeply for the hundreds of hours given freely to strangers. You embody the sharing spirit with your personal actions. See you online!
Bridget

Thanks all, I just completed a survey from Airbnb Community and I totally gave them a negative response. I am just being honest, that it's not the same as this ( current ) community or group.. Anyway, I will be in and out of Global
since I am always busy with a lot of things.. and we will see you there.

How very very sweet, Bridget and Mark! And Bridget and Mark you were so very patient, and dedicated, as you persisted to get back in the group after accidentally being swept out in one of our early cleanses, where we went thru the member roster cleaning house. You persisted to call CX and get help getting back in! No easy feat!!
I'm flattered and touched by all the kind thoughts from all you dear folks who feel like good friends ----hugs to you all --- THis is really a sad time -- because we have all had such a lovely, sweet experience here for the last 2.5 years. We have shared so much, helping out newbies, sharing thoughts about changes in Airbnb or the website, , coming here to touch base with each other over the latest "scandals" and confusions, laughing and being indignant by turn as we shared funny stories or anger-provoking stories about guests. So many intriguing thoughts were shared, astute analyses provided ---particularly by Andrew, who never failed to give the best advice on how to write the perfect review for a difficult guest!! and whose skill at beautifully articulating so many complex hosting issues is unmatched! And of course Andrew speaks up so well to challenge conventional thoughts/assumptions about hosting -- -- for this reason the word I chose to characterize him for the host award was "excogitative" -- And who can forget the great humor by Glenn, during the time Glenn was active here. GLenn had the greatest wit and SO much computer/techhy wisdom, he let us peek into hidden realms of the Airbnb software system and process that I am convinced only the Great Oz was the other one to know!
ANd of course, thanks to all of you community members and "the crew of regulars" on this group and Hosting 911 and Anecdotes, and all your extremely cogent and on-point, witty and amusing sharing and advice that you contributed over the years. Everyone added so much so generously to make this group be what it has been for us all -- I have been going over old posts recently, as I update them on the new site, and I am just touched and amazed at the high level of so many of the contributions. The posts are just , so many of them, so much fun to read. So we are saving many of these for posterity -- and if you ever feel sentimental for these "old" days -- just go there and read and hopefully you'll get your dose of needed comfort.
How rich and adventurous for us all that we collectively dealt with so many Airbnb headaches and bumbledoodle ( I just invented that word-- hope it applies...) and we yakked and joked with each other, and came here to learn and to kvetch, and it was a great super FUN bonding experience for all! WHich really built up for me and many others the sense of kinship and friendship to you folks on this group!
As I wrote in my blog stories, when I first started having renters in my house, I had to struggle through having NO ONE to help me or give advice, and do all my learning by the seat of my pants and through hard lessons. How much I could have used a forum like this then! I found it such a relief to come here and be able to share with you all, things that many people just have no experience about until they open up their homes to have renters or guests. It's an unusual kind of business, with a center helping of generosity and hospitality, but always a side dish of soul and folly, and a certain portion of the truly ridiculous, and I think many of the posts on this group, as well as Hosting 911, and Anecdotes, have very well captured that odd mix of warmth and humor and surprise, intimacy and cultural learning, and "vive le difference" , sometimes real bizarreness, and at times disappointment and anger, that make the unique and tasty stew that hosting has been for us.
May we all continue to enjoy this zesty dish and the soulful stories that flow from it, in whatever way we can!!
This community in its current incarnation will disappear, but there are other places we can gather and spin our delicate and unique web of special comraderie, and I hope that we can continue to do that in diverse ways, avenues and channels on into the radiant future.
I wish everyone a blessed and wonderful journey, on this intriguing and colorful path that we are placed upon.
Stay in touch if you can -- Andrew and I will be at GlobalHosting Forum, along with several others from this community, so you can find us there -- and if you go off in a different direction, we would love to hear your news and updates from time to time, so do drop in and share. Let us know how life is treating you and how your hosting and also non-hosting life is going. We have so valued all your contributions to this group, and the struggles and triumphs you have all shared. Congratulations to all for your great work done!
And now I really dont' know what to say in conclusion, so how about....Mazel Tov!! !!

This board has been such a huge help to me when I began hosting and then recently when we have had to de-activate our listing. I can not thank you enough. I will really miss this board. I special shout out to Deborah for her help with our recent interaction with the city. I will let y'all know how it turns out on the global hosting forum. Thanks again from the bottom of my heart. (I also did a negative review on the new official board. Why oh why was this one ended? With all the issues that airbnb needs to address, this was a priority --- really???!)

I'm going to miss this so much and do want to express my (email hidden)borah - your no nonsense, fact based advice has been invaluable...you have a knack for presenting sometimes complex issues in a way newbies can "get it" without being condescending or smarmy. Glenn - your wit and humor was noticed and most appreciated. And Andrew...what can I say? Articulate, rational, incredibly knowledgable in all things Airbnb and hospitality...you've been a treasure.
All of you and the hosts who posted along with you deserve kudos and attaboys from Airbnb and the rest of us. Great job!

I lurked back in august 2015 when I knew I wanted to host and read and back paged as much as I could, I was nervous when I first listed thanksgiving weekend 2015 and because of all the advice and answers here I have been a happy host with so many guests and such a delightful experience.
Thank you Deborah, Andrew, Helga, CC, Ernest, Raymond and Elaine , and so many others that have helped us newbies. I hope to see all again on the other side on global hosting( rather that) or the community center. Thanks to all that just answer the same questions over and over again, I know I try to do my part because I know how scary it could be when new.

These forums have been a great joy for me since last Summer, when I started onsite hosting. This was the real sharing economy: we all learned from each other and let others profit from our experience. The best part for me was seeing new hosts arrive and get through their first experience and come back to help others. Thank you, Deborah and Andrew for keeping order and maintaining such a friendly climate where that is possible. And thank you for the huge work to create a fallback solution where all those useful advice and the experience of several years will be kept for other new hosts. See you on the other side !
