Gratuity tips
I'm shocked that guests, after we hand hold them on what type of clothing to pack, weather conditions, driving directions, exploring recommendations, and provide accommodations that would cost 4 times as much in a hotel, plus we're cleaner than a hotel, that they don't tip upon departure. It boggles me. Does everyone else not receive any gratuity from their guests? Do you think it would be tacky to have a pretty bowl with a gratuity sign?

Europeans don't tip, it's just not the done thing.

Goodness, I never expect a tip! Why would you think it appropriate? I'd be uncomfortable with it. I'm not a maid - I'm a host! Guests often bring gifts, usually something specific to their country, or write a thank you card and, to me, that's the spirit of the enterprise. So, in answer to your question, sorry but yes I do think it would be very tacky to ask for tips.

I don't want tips. Gifts are welcome, mostly for the gesture, even if I pass on a lot of them to families with kids or friends. A bowl asking for tips would seem very strange to me.

Besides, in Europe it's bad taste to tip the owner, be it in a restaurant, a hotel or the hairdresser. You tip personnel.

Seriously Ululani, the owner sets the price. If your price is too low, raise it. If it is ok, why would you need tips?
