I'm curious to know if anyone has a listing up on VRBO/HomeAway but when a potential guest inquires, you send them to your Airbnb listing to complete the booking. Is this a legit/smart thing to do? I am much more comfortable with Airbnb, especially because of their guarantee and insurance covering hosts. Would love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks!

Hi -- I think that is definitely do-able, if you are able to send website/webpage links to your VRBO prospective guests. The reverse can't be done for two reasons: (1) Airbnb doesn't allow hosts to send website links to guests before booking (or any host contact info) and (2) Airbnb policy is that essentially those who contact you thru Airbnb must book thru Airbnb.,rather than directly or thru another site.
However if VRBO doesn't have such prohibitions, I don't see why you couldn't do that. Just make sure you aren't violating any of the terms of the VRBO site, which I don't know myself since I don't use that site.
What I have done at times is send people who I find thru Craigslist, to book on Airbnb, if they are open to it. I also prefer having extra insurance, host guarantee, etc.

That makes sense. As I've played around with VRBO, it's always seemed much more like a specialized classifieds site for rentals. Airbnb is much more comprehensive, IMHO. As I understand it, they didn't even (until recently) process payments. I will take a look through their ToS to see if they have any applicable policies. Thanks for your thoughts!

It's very possible if the Homeaway/VRBO listing is not covered by a paid subscription that would only deduct cc fee from the rental total. No subscription paid it's an automatic 10% commission and the cc fees.

We can try it. Go to my subscription VRBO listing and send me an inquiry. I will then direct you to the same listing on Airbnb. I'm certain that it can be done, as I have my own website (in such a sad state, I don't know why I bother) as my signature, and external URLS are allowed for subscription listings.
