Here's an article that someone posted on another AIrbnb forum...an example of what makes it harder to do our advocacy work for Short term rentals in Berkeley and elsewhere --

When the "host" is really a large leasing company (eg a corporation), and there are articles about huge numbers of rental units being taken off the market, this makes it more difficult to convince cities to do something like allow the owner of an owner-occupied duplex, or someone with an in-law unit, use that one extra unit as a short term rental. They put on their "preserve rental housing" glasses and when they look at what we are asking, instead they see what this article describes. Sad face.
