Hello everyone Skyranger here - real name Chris
I am new Nov 2015 to hosting - my profile is on hosting - Percy Green Place Huntingdon UK
Not finding this site that easy to use so here goes - I am enjoying being a host so far - all guests are so different - I had one who would only communicate by text even if I was in the next room !! didn't speak to me hardly for 5 weeks - just came in and went out to work every day - it was a bit worrying - I kept checking my personal hygiene !! - on the last day she sat with me for her evening meal and very talkative and perfectly pleasant - other evening meals were taken in room which it is set up to do - this last night I really met her for the first time - character wise anyway - she then posted a review saying everything was lovely and that I was private but approachable person ! - I asked her every day if she was all right, was there anything she needed or wanted etc etc - I do not know what else I could have done - carried her bag to the room each arrival and she re-booked for 5 weeks to the end of her contract
Insurance
What I really want to know is whether or not any UK host has found appropriate insurance - my house insurers have insisted that as soon as I have a paying guest that I am running a bed and breakfast and that as such my insurance becomes nil and void which is worrying, especially if I go out and leave the guest at home on their own - I have said no use of cooker unless I am in !!
- I have tried and tried to explain to the insurer that all I'm doing is renting out a spare room every now and then !! - no joy - they insist I am a business when I have paying guests
Airbnb have confirmed that should some guest burn my house down that the airbnb host guarantee scheme would cover such loss - subject to their loss adjusters findings - so there lies the risk - what would happen to my only life asset if the loss adjusters somehow found it was not the guests fault - I'd loose everything !! literally
So has anyone found an insurer who is sensible and knows we are not running a bed and breakfast business !!
Met some great people and hope to carry on
