After the awful events of Paris did a decision get made where the next open will be?

While stuck in a bar in the Marais district in Paris, after the terrorist attacks, Andrew emailed me that he believes the next Airbnb Open will be in.... Syria!!.
Airbnb Open!!
(So all you would be refugees...dont get all frustrated and stomp out of your demolished nation just yet....don't give up, you can create a listing.)
Just kidding!
THe place where the next open will be, was decided long before the Open in Paris. It will be in the USA somewhere....my guess is New York City.

Deborah, your post made me laugh. With everything that's going on I guess I shouldn't, but it made me chuckle.

Yes....I had thought that the next Open would be in Seoul or Sydney, since I thought the plan was for Airbnb to gradually get around the entire world with the Opens. But, a huge percentage of Airbnb listings are in the USA, so it makes sense that they would have one Open on the west coast, in SF, and then another on the East Coast in NYC.

The announcement was supposed to be on Saturday. All I've heard so far about the announcements intended for Saturday is that they're waiting for the "appropriate context." I don't know what the Open was like last year, but this year's was definitely designed as a media event. The Keynote speeches were presented with an award-show vibe, including very sophisticated filming equipment, and each new announcement came with quite a lot of buildup. Repeated mentions were made of the presence of 80 press reporters in the audience. So now that the press has moved on to other things, I think Airbnb is trying to figure out another way to make their announcements with a comparable amount of pomp and exposure - which will be quite a challenge now that everyone has gone home.
The staff that I spoke to were confident that the next Open won't be in Europe, but not certain that it would return to the US. NY would be an interesting choice considering that it's the least supportive of Airbnb of any major market, but I'm sure it was on the shortlist. I also wonder if Friday's events might have caused them to reconsider whatever choice they'd made. Another city on heightened security alert would surely be a more controversial choice now than it would've been last week. Personally I'd love it if they moved on to a third continent. Assuming they stick with cities where they already have a crew, that would make Sao Paulo, Sydney, Singapore, Seoul, Tokyo, Beijing, and New Delhi possible options.

I hope they choose Sydney! They'd be crazy not to with the Aussie dollar so terrible at the moment. We could still have a terrorist issue here but the access to high powered weapons is greatly less here. Did you enjoy the open Andrew?

NYC would be a good venue for the next open, however NYC is an expensive place to host for such an event.
If it's going to be in the US my top 4 would be 1) Orlando, FL 2) Miami, FL 3) New Orleans, LA and 4) Las Vegas, NV
Now if it's out of the country my top 4 would be 1) Brazil 2) Singapore 3) New Zealand 4) Mexico

I spoke to Peter Kwan (head and founder of SF homesharers) right before he left Paris...he said the next open is supposed to be in LA. I didn't ask him how he knew or who told him this, but generally I find he has the ties to folks on the inside so perhaps he's right?!

Yes very disappointing. Happy hour- no finger foods and limited of 2 drinks, Breakfast awful, lunch awful Thursday dinner - not so great because it only accommodates 20 people, and the food? I was hungry so I ate it... I'm so glad Andrew was there... and the good thing too is that no one shoot at us..and I am freaking so glad that our dinner was not on a Friday the 13th - we almost pick La Petit but we followed Andrew for this dinner, Anyway, Andrew... What do you think about our dinner ?
Over all experience though I'd say it's a 2 1/2 stars

Also zero snacks or coffee between meals! I saw tons of people at the crappy greasy pizza place across the street just trying not to starve...even the fries there were bad (and it's hard to find bad pommes frites in Paris!)

Wow, how very disappointing that would be to travel halfway across the world, for bad food, or not enough food! How were the presentations and workshops?
I would LOVE it if the next Open were in LA because that would mean that I could go!! Since I dont' like to go anywhere I can't drive, I am limited. BUt another Open in California would certainly be very do-able for me. Even if they had bad food I would probably go. I will just recommend that they dont' have the Open near a stadium or a big theatre venue, or a restaurant named after the Mafia, La Cosa Nostra.

The workshops to me are just additional info and to be honest, The host forum are more educating than the workshops that I attended..
The presentation is ok I like Joe's presentation compare to Brian, I like the afternoon session with Chip and Nate's was a little bit boring(The engineering side of Airbnb). Laura mentioned and discussed a lot about what is coming and what is going away.. about the new community group.
But I am totally disappointed for Airbnb not to at least try or provide us info about the closing ceremony because that should be the main event who wins and other good news about where is the next venue... etc... but NO- and nothing has been mentioned in this regard.
I saw Evelyn and I said Hey... but she seems to be pre occupied of something so I didn't bother.. I connected to a lot of hosts and that was cool, I met Joseph, Paul and Mary...
