Pets On Premises
Hi, I have a 'double' house - basically a house with 2 entirely independent apartments side by side. We live in one side and rent out the other. We have dogs on our side. Does that mean there are pets "on premises"? Our dogs never have access to the rental unit - even the yard is separate. Thanks!
Caroline
Greetings from the North Devon Coast Lori and Tom, your listing looks beautiful. Having read your description I would say there are no dogs on the premises. Are you worried about your dogs barking and being heard? Have comments to that affect been made? How lovely and convenient to be next door and as a guest I would find that a plus point. Happy hosting, you have lovely reviews and obviously put a great deal of thought into your hosting.
Lori and Tom
Thanks Caroline! And your place is amazing! To clarify, I'm not too concerned about the dogs barking - no one has ever commented on that. I'm asking as I noticed a "Business Travel Ready" designation is now a thing, and one of the requirements is no pets on the premises. Thanks for your feedback, and Happy Hosting to you, too!
Bridget and Mark
Lori and Tom, what is the "business travel ready" designation, haven't seen or heard about that - thanks for the info. Bridget

I'm thinking "no" ? (what Caroline said)

Aloha Jeannette, I love your humor and replies. I was thinking of your comment and education during the toiletries topic. You already have that one covered with your super kewl videos. I totally fell off my chair laughing with your #Johnnygotnuthin; but didn't want to set those predicted flames afire any quicker than he expects.
Jeannette
YEAH! Lol. (Got Nuthin ... he had nuthin)
Rhonda
I had to add more of my two cents in that post. He's still carrying on. I'd totally pass on ever meeting that hostile one in this lifetime. Scary to think of a host so quick to get out the big guns with his misconstruings and opinions he carries on his shoulders.
helga
Yeah, seems kind of scary for his guests.
Jeannette
Wound a bit "too tightly."

Lol. I sometimes pick them. Should have seen that coming with the Eiffel tower as phallus symbol in the background and the ski cap over his head. But after that horrible bathroom where the tiles made me gap, Lori and Tom's beautiful bathroom restored my faith in humanity and I'll go to bed with a smile. Happy hosting and Let the good times roll!
Jeannette
As we say in Cajun country, "oui, laissez les bon temps rouler!" < pls forgive any misspellings

Helga, sleep well my friend

I'm happy, I'll meet a few fellow forum hosts tomorrow and we will think about you all. - Some years ago, friends collected a few Euros at a dinner, for fun, to win the Euro-Millions together and I said at first "No, what would I do with my part if we won, anyway?" We did not win, but I know now; transform the virtual slumber party in a real one;-) I'll have to buy a ticket, it's 115 Millions this time.
Rhonda
Helga, that sounds like so much fun. I was hoping they would have time with all the festivities to attend. I have France on my bucket list, and had pondered if this was the year due to the Open going on. I'm sure it shall be great enjoyment for you all. That will be so nice to have met them in person and visa versa.
Ernest
I would say that the listing is pet free from the facts given.
Rhonda
Aloha Lori, Nice listing! I see you have added to your House Rules' "Do not flush towelettes or feminine hygiene products down the toilet. Please use the trash can provided." I have copied and pasted this to add to my listing. We enjoyed a long lengthy discussion of this topic last week or so. I would have to vote to mark the yes box on the pets on premises. By the looks of the front doors, it looks like your dogs will occasionally use your own front door with you, yes? Therefore in my humble opinion, premises means property. I have a cat which my guests rarely meet, but he does live on premises. I wouldn't add any notation regarding barking. Most neighborhoods have dogs which bark if emergency vehicles pass, etc.
Lori and Tom
To clarify the front porch situation, there is a wall between my half and the guest's half, so we never see each other if just on the front porch. Thanks for the feedback!

Ah, that's an elegant house, Lori and Tom. Rhonda, the front doors are side by side - I would not see that as dogs on the premises. But I'm living in a residency in Paris, where your neighbors are closer than that but you don"t consider their place as the same premises. I'd cross No Animals and explain in the text that in your separate apartment there are dogs. So you disclosed it, but people who filter for No Animals get to see the place first before they read about the animals in the other unit. Seing the pictures would make me forget some of my conditions, they look so nice.
Jeannette
good squaring of the circle, Helga.
Sheryl
I agree with all who've said that dogs are not on the premises. But to err on the side of complete transparency, at any point in your listing where you mention that you and your family live "on site", I would also mention "with your lovely dog/s . . . .[name/s of dog/s]" and note that the dogs spend their time with the family and do not have a key to the guest space. Just something light that acknowledges the pets are there but offers reassurance about where they will be during the guests' stay.
