Found this story on the news, where a man came home to his apartment and found a strange couple in HIS BED! They said they had rented the place on Airbnb. Problem is, he never listed his place on Airbnb! Turns out, his roommate listed his bedroom on Airbnb while he was away. The video of the story: News story: www.stuff.co.nz/travel/news/71755907/Whos-been-sleeping-in-my-bed-Another-Airbnb-shockerMy take on this: as upsetting as this is, in my opinion this is not an issue for Airbnb to try to prevent. Certainly Airbnb should remove listings that they find out were put up without authorization, but they can't be expected to prevent such listings going up in the first place, as the news anchor in this case seems to think should be done. It's an issue between two tenants, and an issue of an illegal sublet. If I were to list my neighbors' bike for rent on Craigslist, it's not Craigslist's responsibility to make sure I have permission to rent out that bike. Even if an online marketplace had the staff and time to try to verify each and every advertisement to make sure it was legitimate and authorized, there just isn't any practical way to get that verification, particularly in the case of renters who are subletting a space. There are a lot of problems that occur in the world of property rental, and they aren't all for AIrbnb to solve.

A collegue of my daughters did this in his girlfriend's appartment (it wasn't even his place) He put one of the colocs rooms on airbnb and let it out whilst she was away. To make things worse, he never changed the bed linen either before or after the guest left. She found out when someone saw her room listed. They are nolonger on speaking terms which is very awkward as they all live and work to-gether.
