I've always wondered why we as hosts do not automatically receive our guests home addresses. After all, they have ours!
I believe this information could cut a lot of shifty people from the site altogether as their address should match up with their credit card details. Perhaps this would put a stop to the "trashing" of listings if we as hosts have their own home address (there seems to be another nasty incident in Paris, I think 911 or Anecdotes).
Airbnb already have this info, so why can't we? Any guest who does not want to provide an address to their host is, in my opinion, not open enough to "share" this site and certainly not my home!
Thoughts anyone? Perhaps a call out to those attending the Open in Paris to raise this question?

Julia, that's a good idea -- and even if AIrbnb didn't provide hosts this info, I think any host could simply ask for it, perhaps say that this is the information they would request on any rental application. I think it would help, though I don't know if Airbnb could check to see if the address was the same that they used on their credit card. Also, for those who are truly intent on committing crimes -- burglarizing or trashing a place -- it seems that such people give all fake information and book the reservation under a false identity (That was the case in the Calgary incident), so I don't think that the requirement of giving an address would stop the egregious incidents. It might help some in trying to keep "ordinary" people responsible, though.

I totally agree with you. We should have access to all available information about our guests. Coming to Airbnb from subscription sites where things are a lot different, I use a formal contract which I have adapted, and still use on Airbnb. I ask for the guest's address for the contract and stress that the name and address on the contract must match the name and billing address on the credit card and mention that ID may be checked on arrival. I feel this offers some meager protection from criminals using stolen credit cards. Paul
