See the video of the City Council meeting. orindaca.iqm2.com/Citizens/SplitView.aspx?Mode=Video&MeetingID=1582Around time 1 hr 12 minutes in the Police chief gives a report about the shooting. Around 1 hr 15 minutes the law on STRs in Orinda is told, along with comparisons to STR laws in other nearby cities. Several speakers talk for the next few hours. Around 4 hrs the council members start suggesting possible ways forward. What the city council members don't seem to grasp, is that it's not just short term rentals which could bring problem people to their city. Theoretically, a long term rental could also bring in trashy people to the city, who bring with them crime and gang members. And the long term renter would be much harder to remove than a short term renter. Also, given how much of an "outlier" situation this violent party was, I don't see that it makes sense to create law based on one very unusual and tragic incident.
