PG&E, the state's utility company for Northern California, will be shutting off power starting today, to up to 800,000 people! They will continue to do this during times that have adverse weather conditions, such as high winds that could cause fire. This is apparently going to be a regular phenomenon with this utility company. abc7news.com/society/list-areas-affected-by-pg-e-power-outage-in-ca/5603558/www.sfgate.com/california-wildfires/article/pge-potential-power-outage-map-wind-fire-14501332.phpThe outages could last for up to 7 days! Suffice it to say, this could have a devastating impact upon many hosts in areas where the power is scheduled to be shut off. It's much more than lack of wifi. I believe it's the electric power that would be shut off, not the gas, as gas lines are not effected by wind. No power for 7 days means: no appliances work! Including basic ones such as the refrigerator. Food is likely to spoil. No microwave, no coffeemaker, and for those with electric stoves, no stove. For those with electric hot water heaters, no hot water! From what I can tell from maps showing areas scheduled to ahve their power shut off, I'm not in the affected area, but I am fairly close to affected areas: With in a few blocks. I imagine many hosts in my city and other cities in the area have listings in affected areas. This link allows you to see the outage area boundaries in great detail. It also allows you to enter your address to see if you will be affected: projects.sfchronicle.com/trackers/power-outages/Has this impacted you or will it possibly impact you?

I recommend that hosts in areas where the utility company may be shutting off power on a regular basis during adverse conditions, consider getting a gas or solar generator so that you don't lose all power. This could allow you to keep hosting during such times. I recommend the solar powered generators by Goal Zero. www.goalzero.com/shop/portable-power/They are easy to set up and run clean, no noise or gas involved.
