I've read an increasing number of stories of hosts who had a serious problem with a guest, and where it seems that the host could have done better screening. I recommend that particularly in cases where there are any "red flags" or concerns about a prospective guest, that hosts try to do some screening by looking up the guest online or doing a background check. Just ask the guest for their full name, and there are some things you can find for free online -- any social media accounts, also info on people search sites like this one -- this one provides a lot of info for free: www.truepeoplesearch.com/There are various background check businesses you can pay for, as well.
