THis has got to be one of the more weird as well as disturbing stories about bad Airbnb guests. THis story is about a lot of things....but one thing that I"m pretty sure it's NOT about, is racial bias on behalf of the police department, as is alleged by the protagonist.

Unfortunately, this host like many hosts, is quite naive about problems hosts can have with guests, and about problems property owners can have with tenants.
The host:
To begin with, unlike what this host naively assumes, no, it is NOT clearly a crime for a renter to poop in the homeowners' bedroom, or really anywhere in the house on furniture or the floor. This MIGHT be a crime if it's intentional vandalism, but police can't really do anything about this and so, sadly, this host was overly naive to call the police and think they would set things right. Her view that that didn't happen because she's black and the pooper was white, is totally irrelevant, and it shows how much identity politics causes people to see things in a distorted way.
A lot of godawful things happen to both hosts/landlords, and to guests, and it really isn’t always about race or gender, just because such things are involved. For instance I’ve had tenants do similar or worse things to me in my house, and known of other property owners with similar issues, and the police were totally useless. I think sometimes people have unrealistic expectations of the justice system. The justice system Is not fair at all and it’s not always because of race —- it’s just a messed up system . A lot of things that are actually very horrible are not technically illegal.
In this situation I would fault Airbnb more than I would fault police I also fault landlord tenant laws which make it very difficult to immediately remove a renter like this even when they do something like this .
Finally for Gods sakes put a lock on your bedroom Door! A strong one!
And learn how to screen for renters !! when I was a new landlord I made awful mistakes on who I picked for renters —- this is not an issue of race or Airbnb ——it’s the fact that you can’t just jump into being a landlord without knowing anything about how to screen people.
And.... I have been speaking out on this issue almost from the get-go because it bothers me that people endanger themselves by being so naive—- the blog I wrote “Don’t be an Airbnb baby” is about this issue precisely. globalhostingblogs.com/2015/12/04/dont-be-an-airbnb-baby/
It’s also why I have an entire library of articles on my forum about really bad things that happen with guests. Trying to wake people up.
As unfortunate as it is, Pooping like an untrained dog on peoples furniture or floors is definitely not a crime, unless it’s intentional vandalism, but that would have to be proven, it can’t be assumed.
Technically, when someone is a long term renter, even if they rent the place thru Airbnb, you could not evict a person who did this in your bedroom without a standard eviction notice — which in my state means giving someone 30 days notice. You literally could not get them out sooner than 30 days (unless the end date of their reservation is earlier) and even then, if they contest the eviction and take you to court on it, they could literally stall you for months, even up to a year, and they could be pooping all over your house every day this whole time and there would be absolutely nothing you could do about it.
This in my view is why we need a lot more stories like this— not just Airbnb ones but all kinds of ones from the property owners point of view— people just do not know how bad things are for property owners and how tenants rights laws work against us.
