Parish Councilman Steve Stefancik said he is getting several calls per month from constituents who are complaining about short-term rentals in their neighborhoods, mostly about late-night parties and noise.
Short-term rentals take business away from hotels and motels, he said, and most of them are not paying taxes.
Beyond that, they affect the quality of life in St. Tammany. "People say, 'We don't know who our neighbor is from day to day,' " he said.
The complaints echo many of those made by residents of New Orleans neighborhoods where short-term rentals have proliferated in recent years.
