On Feb. 26, 2018, village board members met and debated the terms of a suggested ordinance developed by trustees and Village Administrator Drew Irvin that would allow short-term rentals through services such as Airbnb in Lake Bluff — albeit with a series of conditions.
Among the provisions of the ordinance include that the property must be occupied at least 275 nights per year, that there is a minimum stay requirement of at least two nights and a maximum number of five rooms available for rent, as well as setting up an annual registration fee of $350, plus a fine of up to $5,000 if the regulations are broken by the property owner.
Finally, it would work as a pilot program for two years, with no guarantees that it would continue after that.
After debating the language, village board trustees recommended charging a higher registration fee of as much as $450.
