The landlord of a Chelsea 4 story walkup that was being rented out on Airbnb for years, is now being sued by the city: ny.curbed.com/2018/1/23/16922794/new-york-airbnb-lawsuit-chelsea-landlordThe article indicates that it's difficult for the city to enforce their law on short term rentals. So far they've only cited 139 listings, out of a total of 23,000 suspected illegal listings in the city. And in the ten years it takes them to catch and fine maybe even 25% of those 23,000, there will be another few thousand new illegal rentals that pop up. So it's pointless to try to stop this and control how people rent out their property. Just give it up and put your efforts into a more worthwhile concern.
