Recently, many hosts have started talking about cryptocurrencies and how they will revolutionize the world as we know it. Also how they will transform the hosting world. There are already two STR startups that are based on the use of cryptocurrencies,

www.beetoken.com
There may be more, and/or existing platforms may allow users to pay with cryptocurrencies.
I don't know much about all this.
I'm starting to look for information on it.
Here's some info in this article:

And a video explaining blockchain:
Apparently the technology at the base of cryptocurrency is the "blockchain".
They say that blockchains:
Blockchains are said to be a "gamechanger" ...the article above states that
The author states that blockchain can "decentralize" industries
In his view, applications should be decentralized when there’s:
And these things come into play with Airbnb and other major STR sites.

Apparently the technology at the base of cryptocurrency is the "blockchain".
They say that blockchains:
- Can’t be controlled by any single entity
- Can’t be corrupted by malicious attacks
- Are totally transparent, trustworthy & immutable (unchangeable)
- Have fast transaction speeds & low fees to any internet enabled computer in the world
Blockchains are said to be a "gamechanger" ...the article above states that
Blockchains empower people – by the people, for the people! They eliminate the need for middlemen & data silos across thousands of platforms selling your personal details – Users are in control of their own information and transactions.
A global platform for our transactions & dealings is something very big. This clearly has huge implications and has potential to change the world.
Here’s a list of industries blockchain could disrupt:
Banking
Cybersecurity
Voting & government
Forecasting & prediction markets
Peer-to-peer gambling
Energy efficiency and price
Insurance
Healthcare
Supply-chain management (transparency from start to finish)
Cloud storage
Global & frictionless charity donations
Peer-to-peer retail (like eBay)
Marketplaces (ride-sharing, home-sharing etc)
Loyalty which has real-world value
I’m going to focus on the bottom two and explore how blockchain technology could revolutionise marketplaces like Airbnb & loyalty programs through decentralization.

In his view, applications should be decentralized when there’s:
Distrust in the system
Intermediaries taking large fees with unjustified benefits
Loss of control over privacy, data & future direction
Security issues
