Advice on providing feedback on guest when property damaged
I had a guest stay in one of the bedrooms in my house this week while I was away on business. A couple of nights ago, the bathroom shower door was shattered while she was in the shower (she's OK thankfully). The guest claims the door shattered on its own (it's less than 4 months old, 0.5" thick, professionally installed and planning department approved).
I've looked online and find no reports of shower doors spontaneously shattering. But since I wasn't in town I also don't have much more information.
My question is what should I put in a review of the guest? Clearly they haven't had a superlative stay in the house though not because something I did or didn't do. I'm worried they will put their version in their review. And I'm also torn about what I can put in their review since I don't know for sure what happened. I just don't find their explanation plausible. I think it was an accident and they don't want to admit it.
Joseph:
Check with the Manufacturer of the door , they might have had a few that had flaws . If so they do need to disclose that fact . Its pretty hard to break the newer glass shower doors .
Keith:
knowing if the manufacturer has a known defect is helpful... You an message the guest and let them know that there is a defect if so. If there isn't then you have to assume she did something.
In either case, you should file a claim with airbnb under the host guarantee... if there's a manufacturer defect they should cover the costs of replacement...if not airbnb should.
if it turns out to be defect free, you have to decide whether or not it's worth putting in the guests review.. if you feel she's malicious then by all means let other hosts know, if you feel this is an isolated incident and not reflective of her general behavior then leave it out.
If she mentions it in your review, you can reply with the info from the manufacturer.
Joseph:
Also, make sure it was installed correctly, if the slider or roller part of the door was not properly done , it could cause it to slip . Did you take Photos of the shower door ? Its important to document this so you can have proof for the manufacturer and for a Host claim .
Ernest:
Take a look at this link which has an explanation of a legal doctrine that may very well apply in this case:
