New York City is suing a large landlord who apparently used 9 aliases and 33 different Airbnb accounts to rent out 12 apartments in 3 different buildings -- all of which were illegal under the city's law which prohibits short term rentals of less than 30 days of apartments where the host does not themselves live

A judge also warned her that she could lose her properties if she continues to rent them as short term rentals:
I also think that's going too far -- taking away someone's property for renting the wrong way? I get it that this is an egregious situation based on NYC's intent with its laws, but I think punishment has to be limited. A city can't take away someone's car just because they wake up and decide one day that people who repeatedly don't stop at stop signs reallly piss them off.
