It's not clear to me why the city feels that it HAS TO bring enforcement/fines against someone who, as in the example they cite, is only renting out a bedroom in their home for a couple nights a month. How is that harming anyone? I think in many of these cases, the guests are likely to come and go without even being noticed. As well, the city's regulations on short term rentals are clearly too burdensome, compared to other municipalities. WHen people have to jump through so many hoops -- paying $350 fee, going before a city board, having an inspector come to their house -- that's going to deter a lot of people from following the rules. Make the short term rental rules easier and more people will follow them.
