We had a pending reservation on our calendar with no request, inquiry, email or any other communication. I could only see the photo of the guest and the date was blocked on the calendar with a yellow PENDING icon. After ?24 hours it went away. I have had something like that happen before but I was able to communicate with the guest and accept the request even though it was PENDING with AIRBNB. Just wondering if anyone has had that experience, and does it mean the guest wasn't approved by AIRBNB. Peggy

This has happened to me a few times, for a couple different reasons.
At times you will get a Request that doesn't contain a message. When this is the case, you do need to take action and either decline or accept the reservation (though you can still write to ask questions before you make your decision). Check your Dashboard to make sure you don't have a clock ticking on one of these.
If you require Verified ID in order to submit a Request, then guests will be prompted to complete the verification when they attempt to book your room. At that point, the dates are put on hold for 24 hours and can only be confirmed when the guest's ID scan is successful. One big problem: the verification process doesn't work well on many mobile devices, so guests without access to a computer (or those who are unaware that Airbnb is not just an app) may not be able to complete it.
Another cause of those "pending" reservations is when there are when you accept a booking but the payment is unsuccessful. Usually when this happens, you get an email that says the booking will be confirmed upon payment and cancelled automatically in 24 hours if the money doesn't come through.
It's also possible that the guest began the Request or Instant Booking process but navigated away from the page/app before it was completed. Initiating a booking triggers a hold on the dates, though I'm not sure at precisely which point in the protocol that happens, or whether it works the same for Mobile users as for Desktop.

Peggy, did the reservation just say pending or pending verification? If it says pending verification that may mean that the guest is required to be verified (either by you, or by Airbnb -- sometimes Airbnb requires verification when you don't) before their reservation request can go thru to you. If they don't get it done the request is cancelled and never goes thru. But your calendar stays blocked thru the process for about 24 hrs.

It just said Pending in a yellow box. There wasn't a message from the guest, but there was a photo of her. I wonder if she just didn't complete her profile, request, etc. It is gone now. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help. I think you might be correct that is was an incomplete profile, request, etc. It's gone now. I didn't see the clock ticking so I'm probably okay as far as my stats! Peggy
