fined by the city
Today, when I came home, I found two white papers scotched taped to my door. The city says I need to pay a $500 fine or face 30 days in jail. I do not have $500 ! I called Arnold Belzer and he helped me out. I am not paying the money and will go to court. Hopefully, they will not put this Grandmother in jail.

Are you okay with zoning in your area?? If not, the city will take action. I know of other hosts who have had to pay fines. It's a process to become legal here!

Do I really have to pay the $500? I hope someone will answer this. I contacted airbnb and they cannot help me. It's the zoning - R-6. I guess I will have to stop hosting people after May 10th. I am so disappointed because I was just beginning a savings account and now I won't be able to.

My friend has switched to 30 day rentals because of zoning...she is doing okay at the moment & legal....I think she paid the fine (which was more than $500) but I wouldn't do anything without a court hearing...did they give you a date? There are some other folks having hearings on Apr 28 I think

There is no court date. I don't want to pay it. Not sure what to do.

Since you are in theyR6district, it is against the code to do short-term rentals. But they have to follow due process of law. You need to receive notification which they did already, but then a court order to stop. You will not be fined or go to jail, as they have not presented evidence and a judge has not ordered you to stop.....unless you still keep renting after the court order, like I did to finish up my reservations and keep my good reviews!. I am checking if my petition to allow short term renters in the R6 district is on the MPC agenda to be heard (again) April 28. I will let you knowing way or the other.

so if I stop renting a room by the date listed and pay the fine, I will be ok?
