something....went wrong, wrong.....wrong....and so it is with the Host Community Groups. Something lovely, lively and created by hosts and for hosts, was thrown away today May 31 2016 sometime between the hour of 5:30pm and 6:20pm Pacific Standard time, and replaced with something ...well..not so lovely and lively, and not created by and for hosts.
The end of one era the begining of a new dawn....right!!

Groups briefly went on again overnight due to a hiccup....I went on again today June 1st and saved some more old posts...and then groups went out again around 2:30pm PST...
Found out later that the groups were not accessible on PC after this point, but were still accessible on the mobile app. .

Awkwardly, 6 days after groups closure, the groups are still open on the mobile app....I contacted Diana Wong at Airbnb to find out when they would be closed. She stated that the groups will be closed on the mobile app next Monday or Tuesday, that they couldn't do it all at once. This closure by parts is awkward and no doubt leads to confusion for many -- it also leads to emotional turbulence for us who have had so much energy invested in the old groups! We need a final closure in order to process this all emotionally.
Here's the email message I got from Diana today:

As of today, June 17, 17 days after the groups officially "closed" , I still have access to them on my mobile phone. I contacted Diana Wong again to ask for an update on the closure. Last week she had stated that groups on the app were to be closed as of this Monday or Tuesday this week, that is, June 13 or 14. But I still had access to them today, Friday June 17.
Today I heard this back from Diana Wong at Airbnb:
Diana email 1: "This should have been fixed Monday of this week, are you still seeing the Groups link in the mobile app? Can you tell me what device you're using, going to check back with the team. Sorry for the inconvenience."
Diana email 2: " Team got back to me, you actually will need to update your mobile app, let me know if you need help with that or if the problem is still happening after you update. "
I replied to her that I am intentionally not updating my app (on an iphone) to see what remains visible when one avoids doing that, and asking if, for those who never update their app, would that mean they would never lose access to groups.
Diana Email 3: "Thanks Deb for sending me the info. Unfortunately, users will have to update the app themselves, I don't think theres a way we can force an update, but if you would like to keep your phone app in the old version to see what's visible, feel free to pass along any info to me.thanks! "

The anecdote groups still gets new members and obviously, some of them must have a recently installed app. Others can't update as their phone or tablet will not allow it. They should at least update the text on top of groups to indicate it is obsolete and people should change.
At the moment, they post, get gelp and the answer link goes to community, where their post in NOT- that must be frustrating. Some give up, the others go back in and scroll down. After a few days, it gets complicated.
When I posted what you found out, on anecdotes, I got a few likes. Even though I called it doom or something in that sense.
