Hide the Kitchen Scouring Pad
Recently hosted a sweet European couple and child that wanted kitchen access to prepare meals. They were any host's ultimate dream guests - friendly, excellent communication, timely for check in...and clean! I knew that they were using the kitchen, but our schedule had us out for meals and it was so spotless that I hardly entered the cooking zone. After they left I noticed that our new stainless cooktop had been so meticulously cleaned that it appeared to look different. Oh no! Guest had used a scouring pad to clean and stainless now had a "brushed metal" appearance. Take this as a lesson that sometimes other country's use different cleaning and household supplies differently.

Stainless cooktops are very trendy in the US now but they're not very common in European households. I also notice that most people here don't seem to know how to care for cast iron anymore.
You might consider posting some basic care instructions for your nice kitchen equipment in a visible place, like near the sink.

This is why I do not list my kitchen, but rather state that there is "access to the kitchen." Bottomline - it's an issue of risk/reward. It seems to me that it is better that I am here to assist/monitor if they want to make something. There is so much harm a well-meaning visitor can do to a kitchen. And when the harm is done - granite/stainless steel/porcelain/etc.- it's not like you can come back and say "hi, when you cleaned my stove you ruined the finish, that will be $900 for the replacement piece." This is a very difficult issue. I'm so sorry you/they are having to deal with it! :-(

It's of course too late in this case, but when in doubt, I label it for the Guests. A P-touch labeler should be on every Host's supply list. I don't want certain knives, cookware or the ice cream scooper in the dishwasher. So I have a label on the knife block, a small sign on the dishwasher door and I a sticker on the ice cream scooper. And if I had a $900 stainless steel cooktop on my oven that could be ruined by a scouring pad, I would not only mention that in the listing and in person with the Guest upon arrival, I would like have a light up sign and marqueee lights to prevent any damage.

I had to buy a new stove for the private apartment. I was going to get one with the glass top and decided against it because of guests.
