First Experience. Overall Good with 1 Major Concern.
I had a couple stay with me for 4 nights. They were very friendly and left the place clean when they checked out this morning. However I noticed that there were punctures in the hardwood flooring that most likely were caused by sharp / pointed heels of a shoe. My house rules clearly state that shoes are to be left by the main entrance. And I also made a mention of that when they checked in. So far we haven't left a review for each other but I was thinking of sending them a note to tell them what I found and what they had to say. Any thoughts on how best to deal with this?

Ask the guest directly about the damage.

I was exchanging messages with them regarding sending back some clothes they left behind and I mentioned the punctures I noticed. Asked them if they had any ideas what could have caused them. They haven't responded back yet. Its

That's why I always put a security deposit on my listings - it just saves so much hassle. Sorry to hear you've had a problem, it's very rare so don't let it put you off.

Sorry to hear this happened, and I too request that guests remove shoes, however unless the high heels were made of nails and the person wearing them weighed quite a lot, I don't know how high heels could cause punctures in hardwood flooring.

The pattern and spread of the punctures is such that either someone went around punching holes in them with a 0.5 cm blunt object or was walking around not knowing that something on their shoe or the heel was causing those. And yes the lady was on the bigger side. I have initiated communication through the Resolution Center and will hopefully have an outcome soon.

Finally have the opportunity to write an update on this. So matter lingered on for more than a month with a lot of back and forth with the Guests. They finally came back with offer of USD 500 which was half of what I had claimed and the lowest quotation I had received. I did not agree to accept their offer and finally had to escalate the matter to AirBnB because their replies were taking much longer to come by. AirBnB asked me to fill out the Host Guarantee Claim Form because what I was claiming was more than the amount of Security Deposit. I finally received the amount of the lowest quotation.
