Noisy Neighbors
I have a huge group staying in our apartment for an overnight stay. My husband and I live outside of the city, so we have a caretaker who stays at the premises for immediate guest needs.
At 11 p.m. last night, our caretaker called us saying that the guest was complaining because apparently our neighbors were having a very loud karaoke (singing) Christmas party. Obviously, this was not a good thing as our guests were trying to get a decent sleep as they had a very early flight the next day.
The only thing we could do was ask our neighbors to keep it down, but they ignored our complaints and continued 'til 12 midnight. In the Philippines, karaoke singing parties (especially during the holiday season) is normal and tolerated by neighbors, but my guests were from another Asian country and I would suppose this was definitely out of the norm for them.
Since it was very late, I didn't think it was proper to call our guests as they were already sleep deprived, so I just opted to send an apology message on Airbnb. Putting myself in my guest's shoes, I would understand that this was beyond the host's control, but definitely would be quite annoyed. Needless to say, I'm dreading the review.
I'm just curious as to what other hosts would do in my position? Could I have done something else to make up for the noise?

There is not much you can do. Midnight is not that late, especially in the holiday season.

Yes. This is the Holiday Season and if your neughbors are not the type to throw weekly parties, there is nor much you can do without alienating your neighbors. Good luck!

I have given small refunds to groups who were inconvenienced but did not complain about things like this – it's just an intermittent goodwill gesture, not a regular practice. A little something to demonstrate that you understand their frustration.
If they are going to be there for a few days, another option is to send a basket or bottle of wine.

Hi Julie & Eric! I've also given refunds or small gifts/tokens to a few inconvenienced guests (usually for problems out of our control). The guests I was talking about stayed overnight. Do you think I should offer a small refund for these guests?

If you feel like that would be something you appreciate, I'd do it. Amount is up to you. You could also email them an Amazon gift card. I would rather a guest let me know about things like this so I'm aware.

I stayed with a host whose neighbor had a loud bbq at night. I didn't even mention it to the host or in his review because sometimes things are just out of your control. It's the luck of the draw I guess. Stay at a hotel if you're want a guaranteed quiet night.

I'm hoping that our guest doesn't leave a bad review but we shall see. Thank you!

Speaking of hotels this happened at a hotel to me before. I'm a heavy sleeper so it was pretty loud and had an early meeting. The manager slipped a coupon for a free movie under my door. Although i didn't hold it against the hotel bc they got it stopped immediately, I had three more days there and appreciated the gesture.

I'm with Julie & Eric. Twice I've had unexpected noise late at night/early in the morning (in my case, construction next door & a gas leak repair) and, in both cases, the guest did not complain but I submitted for a partial refund before the guest even checked out. In both cases, the guests were very appreciative & left me good reviews not even mentioning the noise.
